Blog Post: United by Blue Contribution to Stop Ocean Pollution – #QuitSingleUse Plastic Pledge

If you are currently reading this blog, it may be because you care about the environment just as much we do here in United By Blue. That is a good thing, you understand the importance of environmental activism and you probably know that the decisions that we take now will have a huge impact on our future. 

One thing you need to accept and understand before anything else is the fact that WE ARE ALL ADDICTED TO PLASTIC. We use plastic for everything, we use it to carry our groceries, to cover or wrap our food, we find it in our home, our cars, our clothes. You are most likely even wearing plastic right this second. This is something that we sometimes don’t notice or we simply decide to ignore it, but the reality is that plastic contaminates our planet. 

Since the day of our foundation as a company, we have been cleaning trash from the ocean and waterways, but we have realized that is not enough anymore, it is time to take it to the next level. Over the years, we have become aware of the damage caused by the use of plastic inside our company and because of this, we have created the United By Blue Pledge.  We are asking you to be part of something great through a challenge. We challenge you to take the pledge to Quit Single-Use Plastic (#QuitSingleUse) for 24 hours. The goal of this initiative is to encourage you and more individuals to confront their addiction to plastic. We want to help people realize and accept their dependence on single-use plastic. Our goal is to reach 50,000 pledges, for each person who takes the pledge through our social media campaign, we will add one pound of trash to our 2020 trash removal goal.

We know that it is our pledge too and United By Blue is 100% committed to this cause. By World’s Ocean Day 2020, we will be working to eliminate the use of plastic poly bags, plastic swift tags, plastic bubble wrap sleeves, and plastic trim bags from our business. This is our choice. 

We know that it is going to be difficult, we have been there. But above all else, United By Blue believes in the power of teamwork. We know that you are ready to make an impact and make this choice.
